The opportunity
Alliance Insurance spotted an opportunity to digitise the stokvel market. Many stokvels still aren’t digital, and membership has grown with the economic climate.
Alliance created a tool where customers can manage their stokvel, transact using a wallet, see other members and keep track of their savings and investments.

Hola
Hola is the product that came out of it: a stokvel app for savings and loan groups. Members contribute on the cycle their group agreed, the pool lends to members and tracks repayments, and what it earns is shared by each member’s stake. Savings, investments and insurance cover sit in the same place, and every transaction is on a record any member can check.
Each role gets its own view of that one record: members see their own position, admins onboard people and process loans, and the treasurer and chairperson get the overview they were elected to keep. Cover is underwritten by Alliance Insurance, so the risk sits with a licensed insurer, not with the group.
